SUBJECT: Contests 2017
POSTED BY: Mat (G7FBD) - 15/07/2017
That's the 2017 contest season over, and well the scoring is a bit odd in this years Trophy. Although, to be honest, I guess other teams were it in much the same as we were. The Group secured 7th place again in the open section, as we have for the last three years. Our score was affected by simple mistakes by receiving stations that claimed we were 5/9 and recorded us as 5/3 in their log. or not quite got the callsign /P correct. Still as I stated, I guess were not alone with this problem. Its a shame some decide under contest conditions "You are 5/9" followed by "Please repeat you callsign, report and locator again". If you are going to give a report, at least look at the meter!
That aside at time of writing this, we are waiting for the UKSMG results to be published, so it would be interesting to see if we have improved on that event.
Again thanks to all the team for the efforts this year, its now time to start planning for 2018. 73'

This years (2015) UKSMG contest was hard going, Saturday the weather was a mess, high winds, occaional rain, band flat, other than one contact into OE we had to put up with inter-G traffic, but still a good way to pick up squares, and members. Sunday was totally different (see Gallery). Nice sunshine, hardly any wind. Shame conditions were still flat, until the usual last few hours, then a few inter - Euro contact. Still great contest, thanks to everyone we worked. Gary is working on the scores and we hope to get a claimed score published very soon!

After a busy 2014 in which we missed the UKSMG Sporadic E contest as Gary and I were travelling around the U.S.A. and for us unfortunately last years contest fell on the same day as our return flight.
We were lucky to work some short opening on 6m while doing the "World tour" :) Gary had a fantastic opening from Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake.
We did take part in the RSGB Trophy as a collective and came 12th. Now we are looking forward to the 2015 contest season.
